The GLNP Habitat network model maps are based on methodology developed by Natural England. Network models are available for each Priority habitat. Two 'zones' are produced for each Priority habitat: 1) the Network Enhancement Zone; this shows where action can be targeted to expand and reinforce the existing networks and 2) the Network Expansion Zone; this shows where action can be targeted to improve connections between the different the individual networks.
Areas that are of particular importance for biodiversity
Priority 1 Action 1
Buffer and link existing semi-natural woodland with a mix of appropriate native, climate resilient species. Based on the Network Enhancement Zone from the GLNP Habitat Network model for Lowland Mixed Deciduous Woodland.
Priority 1 Action 3
Leave space for natural regeneration of semi-natural woodland, particularly around Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland and Priority Habitat woodland. Based on the Network Enhancement Zone from the GLNP Habitat Network model for Lowland Mixed Deciduous Woodland.
Priority 2 Action 6
Restore semi-natural woodland on Plantation on Ancient Woodland Sites by a gradual process of thinning, removing non-natives and restocking via natural regeneration and enrichment of planting appropriate species. Based on Natural England's Ancient Woodland (England) dataset with the themname attribute filtered to 'Ancient Replanted Woodland.'
Priority 3 Action 9
Buffer and link existing wet woodland with native, climate resilient species. Based on the Network Enhancement Zone from the GLNP Habitat Network model for Wet Woodland.
Priority 3 Action 10
Leave space for natural regeneration of wet woodland. Based on the Network Enhancement Zone from the GLNP Habitat Network model for Wet Woodland.
Priority 3 Action 11
Create new wet woodlands by planting native, climate-resilient species. Based on the WWNP Floodplain and Riparian Woodland Potential dataset within the Network Expansion Zone of the GLNP Habitat Network for Wet Woodland.
Priority 5 Action 14
Buffer existing wood pastures and parklands by planting and managing specimen trees within grazed grassland. Based on the GLNP Wood-pasture and parkland Priority habitat data buffered to 250m.
Priority 6 Action 15
Implement appropriate grazing levels and draw up management plans to enhance structural and species diversity. Based on GLNP Wood-pasture and parkland Priority habitat data.
